Predictions for the Growing Industry of Healthy Aging

Alina Su, CEO of Generation Lab, shared insights on the future of the longevity sector at Fortune’s Brainstorm Health conference. Highlighting a shift towards prioritizing internal health over external beauty, Su introduced Generation Lab’s SystemAge test, part of a $149 monthly membership, which uses epigenetic blood tests to assess aging and disease risk across 19 organs. This aligns with the concept of "health care 3.0," emphasizing prevention over treatment.

Since founding Generation Lab last year, Su has engaged with numerous experts and consumers in the longevity space. Based on these interactions, she offers three key predictions for the future of the industry:

1. Increased Youth Participation
  - Longevity clinics are attracting a younger demographic, from ages 20 to 70, with many in their 20s showing interest. This trend is global, with beauty spas in Dubai transforming into longevity centers. Influencers like Kim Kardashian are also promoting preventive health measures, drawing younger audiences.

2. Accessible Longevity Practices
  - Longevity doesn’t require extreme measures. Su argues that with more data, individuals can adopt simple, affordable lifestyle changes to improve their health, making longevity accessible to everyone, not just extreme biohackers like Bryan Johnson.

3. Future Standardization
  - The longevity field currently lacks certification and standardization. Su advocates for clear definitions, research, and regulatory markers to validate the effectiveness of longevity treatments and drugs. Establishing biomarkers of aging is crucial for assessing the efficacy of these interventions.

Su’s predictions suggest a democratization and standardization of longevity practices, making them more accessible and reliable for a broader population.
